NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Neighbors who live in the 5700 block of Ridgeway place in Lakeview say they have been dealing with water spewing from under a fire hydrant for over a month.

A family that lives in a house just a few yards from the leak says it is causing the ground around their home and their yard to erode. The grass around the fire hydrant is soft and soggy as well.

Several people on this block say they put in numerous calls to Orleans Parish Sewage & Water Board already, sometimes calling multiple times a day. One home owner says that sometimes his wife calls to complain and gets disconnected, and when she does get through, he says she's told that they will get to the problem. But there are so many backed up calls about broken fire hydrants in the city that it would not be worth it to put in a duplicate report, an ordeal people say has everyone on this block fed up.

A representative from the sewerage and water board says that she did put in another order and someone will be there to assess the situation Friday, but neighbors say they have heard promises like that before.

However, a S&WB truck showed up around 2 p.m. There is no word on if the leak was stopped.
