Many of his sophomore starts haven’t been pretty, but Alex Lange remains an unreal performer when the stakes are high.
After giving up a run in the bottom of the second inning, Lange shut the Volunteers down and powered LSU to a 2-1 victory to open their series in Knoxville. He threw a career-high 121 pitches in the process to save the already-thin Tigers’ bullpen.
Offensively, middle infielders Cole Freeman and Kramer Robertson came through. Freeman slammed his first home run as a Tiger out of left field to tie the game in the third inning. Robertson delivered an RBI-single to score Freeman in the eighth and give LSU the last run of the game.
LSU improves to 34-16 overall and 15-10 in the SEC.
