NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The exterior lights of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome will be lit blue to honor officers with the New Orleans Police Department who lost their lives in the line of duty and to thank the current NOPD officers serving the community.
According to the NOPD, the lighting coincides with National Police Week which honors law enforcement officers across the country, that paid the ultimate price.
"Being a police officer is not just a career, it's a calling and a commitment to protect and serve others without fear for your own safety," said NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison. "I want to thank the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and SMG for publicly honoring officers who we've lost and recognizing the officers who are taking that risk right now every day."
"As a corporate citizen of this great city, we are humbled to be able to recognize the brave men and women of the NOPD who daily put their lives on the line so that we may all are able to enjoy a higher quality of life," said Alan Freeman, General Manager, Mercedes-Benz Superdome .
The Mercedes-Benz Superdome will be lit blue from May 15 through May 19.
