NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - People driving to the Lower 9th Ward or St. Bernard Parish this weekend may need to take a detour.
State highway workers will close the eastbound span of the Judge Seeber Bridge, also known as the Claiborne Ave. Bridge, for 12 hours on both Saturday and Sunday. It will shut down from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days.
The Department of Transportation and Development says the closure is to allow for bridge maintenance and roof replacement. Officials remind people to drive with caution through the construction site.
Drivers can take the St. Claude Ave. bridge as an alternate route.
