ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

Weetos, Cannabis Toast Crunch and Froot Poofs, those are just some of the names of snacks St. John Parish Sheriff's deputies found during a recent narcotics investigation.

The detectives noticed the packages had cannabis labelling on the bags of snacks with familiar name, character and logo variations.

Authorities tested the food products and found the treats included THC, the chemical compound found in marijuana.

It all started on May 16 when deputies were called to a hotel in the 4200 block of Main Street in LaPlace. St. John Parish deputies responded to a call of excessive traffic to and from the hotel room and the smell of marijuana.

During a search of the hotel room, narcotics detectives seized the weed snacks, 50 grams of marijuana, promethazine syrup (prescription cough medicine known by the street name "lean"), drug paraphernalia used for the sale of illegal narcotics, a handgun, and over $5,000 cash.

Detectives arrested 21-year-old Cortaz Williams of Reserve and booked him with battery of a police officer; possession of drug paraphernalia; obstruction of justice; possession with intent to distribute marijuana; sale, distribution, or possession of a legend drug without a prescription; and illegal carrying of a weapon with CDS. He was released from custody on an $119,000 bond.

26-year-old Everette Taylor of Reserve was arrested and booked with possession of drug paraphernalia; obstruction of justice; possession with intent to distribute marijuana; sale, distribution, or possession of a legend drug without a prescription; and illegal carrying of a weapon with CDS. He remains in custody in lieu of an $114,000 bond.

Keenan Cambre, 25, of LaPlace was arrested and booked with possession of drug paraphernalia; obstruction of justice; possession with intent to distribute
marijuana; sale, distribution, or possession of a legend drug without a prescription; and illegal carrying of a weapon with CDS. He was released
from custody on an $114,000 bond.

Detectives also arrested 25-year-old Jairen Kendrick of Reserve and booked him with possession of drug paraphernalia; obstruction of justice; possession with intent to distribute marijuana; sale, distribution, or possession of a legend drug without a prescription; and illegal carrying of a weapon with CDS. He was released from custody on an $114,000 bond.

Sheriff Mike Tregre besides the drugs his detectives also seized several clothing items that had similar logos referencing narcotic slogans. The sheriff says the four people rented the hotel room for four days before they were arrested.

Sheriff Mike Tregre advised citizens to be aware of the potential health threat to anyone who may consume the weed snack products. The sheriff's office also said while the medical cannabis treats may be legally made, it is illegal to buy, sell and possess these products in Louisiana.
