Several parishes under severe storm warnings

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A line of strong storms capable of producing strong winds and even tornadoes is moving across Louisiana tonight.

St. Bernard and Plaquemines parishes were under a Tornado Warning until 11:45 p.m. Those warnings have expired.

The following parishes are under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until midnight:

  • Washington
  • Pearl River County
  • Hancock County

According to the NWS, the storms are moving Northeast at 35 mph, bringing 70 mph winds and penny-size hail with them. Residents under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning should expect considerable tree damage as well as damage to mobile homes, roofs and outbuildings. The NWS advises anyone included in these warnings to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of the building they are in.

According to the National Weather Service, the following parishes are under the severe thunderstorm watch until 2 a.m.:

  • Jefferson
  • Lafourche
  • Orleans
  • Plaquemines
  • St. Bernard
  • St. Charles
  • St. John the Baptist
  • St. Tammany
  • Tangipahoa
  • Washington
