(WVUE) - Boys and girls form the Belle Chasse Academy got a chance to do a little fishing recently with some of the area's best charter captains and recreational anglers.
The group left out of the Myrtle Grove Marina to catch a few fish and celebrate their accomplishments as members of their schools leadership programs. Jaykia, Christian and Natanya jumped on my boat, along with boys' program coordinator Alton Theard.
Christian, a veteran angler, started the morning with a fine first fish. Jaykia picked up quickly, catching his first speckled trout. The kids spent the morning putting the hurt on the fish in Barataria Bay.
Natanya gave the boys a bit of a head start then decided to have some fun, catching five fish quickly.
Most of the fish were caught on live shrimp and berkley gulp, and most of the day was spent at the Manila Village and surrounding islands.
