BATON ROUGE, LA (WVUE) - LSU's series win over Florida gives the Tigers 11 triumphs in 12 contests. One of the catalyst for this scorching run to end the regular season is sophomore Greg Deichmann. The Brother Martin grad's six home runs, and 41 RBI give the Tiger lineup some much-needed pop.
"I'm hitting balls hard, and just missing a few. Some are starting to fall for me. I'm feeling good in the box, and feeling good with my approach. I'm not getting fooled too much," said Deichmann.
Last year Deichmann didn't even finish the season with LSU, he headed up early for summer ball missing the entire postseason.
"It was a little frustrating from my standpoint. We had a star-studded lineup last year. It's hard to break in there as a freshman anyway," said Deichmann. "The injury didn't help, missing eight weeks. It was tough. I was glad to be a part of that team, got to learn from the veterans in front of me, and take that on to this year.
Deichmann's rise from the bench, to the starting lineup in his sophomore campaign isn't lost on his teammates.
"(It) just shows the kind of mentality he has, and the mentality it takes to play at a level like this in college baseball. It's no surprise to us what he's doing this year. We knew that he had that talent," said LSU outfielder Jake Fraley.
