KENNER, LA (WVUE) - Kenner police are investigating a car accident that left a 75-year-old Metairie man in critical condition. The incident occurred Monday at 10:28 a.m. near the intersection of Williams Boulevard and 23rd Street.
Police say that the man, who was driving an SUV, was leaving the parking lot of a business and trying to travel eastbound on 23rd Street. For unknown reasons, the man sped up on 23rd Street and began traveling east in the westbound lane. According to police, the driver ignored a traffic control device and crashed into a fuel truck which was traveling south on Williams Blvd.
The driver of the SUV was transported to University Hospital where he is listed in critical condition. The driver of the fuel truck was also brought to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition. Police say that the fuel truck was empty at the time of the crash. The incident caused Williams Blvd south at 23rd Street to close for two hours.
The crash is still under investigation.
