(WVUE) - Southeastern junior Jameson Fisher's incredible 2016 season was rewarded Monday with the Southland Conference's Player of the Year honor.
The Zachary native led the nation in batting average (.449) and on base percentage (.577), in addition to leading the conference in five other offensive categories. Fisher was also named First Team All-Southland, along with Lions second baseman Carson Crites and pitcher Mac Sceroler. Destrehan High products Kade Granier and Brennan Breaud were named relief pitcher of the year and freshman of the year, respectively.
Matt Riser's team begins Southland tournament play Wednesday at noon as the second overall seed against seventh-seeded UNO.
