(WVUE) - The United States Coast Guard urged all boaters to file a float plan, before hitting the water. The push comes as the U.S. and Canada mark National Safe Boating Week (May 21-27).
Float plans contain detailed information about the boat, its radio and other equipment. The Coast Guard said the document, which also contains details about the crews, passengers and destination, can help rescuers in the event of an emergency.
You can download a float plan here. The Coast Guard suggests leaving the papers with a friend or relative staying on land.
