NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Tulane trailed 3-0 in the fifth inning against UCF before mounting a comeback; first, with two runs in the bottom of the frame, then a run in the sixth to tie and one in the seventh to take a lead they would not relinquish.
The Green Wave's 4-3 victory means they get a day off to rest before facing Houston Thursday in a rematch of the series that ended the regular season. Tulane took two of three against the Cougars to win the conference.
Tuesday's win was powered by just four hits, but a ground-rule double by Jeremy Montalbano in the seventh was all it took to bring Grant Witherspoon home and give David Pierce's team the go-ahead run. Starter Trevor Simms and Corey Merrill each led the way on the mound with 2.1 innings pitched. Neither allowed a run and Merrill got the win.
