NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - This weekend millions of Americans are preparing to hit the roads or board a plane for the Memorial Day weekend.
Some experts predict it could be one of the busiest Memorial Day weekends ever on the roads.
Low gas priced are a factoring into the belief that this holiday could be one of the busiest on the roads.
In New Orleans right now, the average price is $2.05 for a gallon of regular unleaded, that's about seven cents more than it was last week.
According to gasbuddy.com, the national average is $2.30 or about .34 cents lower than this time last year.
Those lower prices could set the stage for the busiest holiday weekend on the roads in 11 years.
With that in mind law enforcement are out in force to make sure the holiday is as safe as possible on the roads.
Louisiana State police are teaming up with local law enforcement agencies to increase patrols looking to spot speeding and aggressive drivers. There will also be DWI and seat belt checkpoints.
The 'Click it or Ticket' enforcement program will be in effect this weekend in Louisiana.
Last year Memorial Day there were seven traffic fatalities in Louisiana.
