NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The New Orleans Police Department is investigating several crimes over the weekend including four carjackings and at least eight armed robberies across the city.
Around 7:45 p.m.Saturday, two women were carjacked in the 2600 block of Cupid Street in Algiers. According to preliminary reports, the two women were sitting in a vehicle when a car approached them. The driver got out and demanded the keys from the victims. The perpetrator fled in the victim's vehicle and was followed by the original car he got out of.
Less than an hour later, a woman was carjacked in the 4600 block of Majestic Oaks. Police say she was sitting inside her car when two armed males in a black sedan pulled in front of her and ordered her out of her vehicle.
Another woman was carjacked around 11: 30 p.m. Saturday in the 3000 block of N. Rampart Street. A police log of major incidents says the woman was approached by as many as six male teenagers as she was entering her vehicle. They hit the victim, then dragged her out of her car. They all got in the vehicle and fled.
A fourth carjacking was reported in the 2900 block of Freret Street just before 2 a.m. Sunday. Four women were approached by a vehicle with two males inside. One of the men, armed with a gun, got out of the car and demanded the victim's property and vehicle. The victim's complied and the subjects fled.
The cashier at Brother's Food Mart in the 5100 block of St. Claude Avenue was robbed twice Sunday morning. Police say an armed male subject entered the store around 2:15 a.m. and demanded money from the register. The cashier complied and the subject fled. Around 4 a.m. a male entered the store armed with a gun and robbed the same cashier of money and fled. Police have not said if they believe the same man is responsible for both armed robberies.
A man and woman were robbed at gunpoint as they sat on the patio of a home in the 3700 block of Banks Street. Around 3:20 a.m.,a black sedan pulled up at the home and an unknown male armed with a semi-automatic weapon exited the vehicle. He demanded property from the two victims. They complied and the subject fled.
