Louisiana honors veterans for Memorial Day

Memorial Day in Louisiana saw no shortage of events honoring veterans.

On the North shore, four Memorial Day events commemorated veterans. Louisiana Treasurer John Kennedy was the keynote speaker at Memorial Plaza in Saint Tammany Parish. The American Legion Post 16 hosted the event.

In Covington Mayor Mike Cooper & Covington Heritage Foundation hosted a "Veterans Appreciation Reception" at Bogue Falaya Hall.

In Slidell, Homer Rodgers, Undersecretary of the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs hosted commemorations at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery.

The American Legion and the JPSO Young Marines placed over 3,000 small American flags on the graves of veterans at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Metairie.

In Saint John the Baptist Parish, Parish president Natalie Robottom was a keynote speaker for victory bells and a 21 gun salute honoring veterans at the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home.

And Bells tolled at the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 162 to honor past present and future veterans.Retired Commander and former Executive Officer of the Belle Chase the Naval Air Station, Robert M. White hosted the "Two Bells" Memorial Day event.
