NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - After an intensive manhunt Wednesday, New Orleans police captured an armed robbery suspect in a marshy area near Highway 11 and I-10 East, according to an NOPD spokeswoman.
The initial armed robbery occurred a few weeks ago, and police said the suspect, 20-year-old Donnell Benjamin, fired shots at the victim in that incident.
Officers had been actively looking for Benjamin when they saw him driving a vehicle that connected to the robbery, police said. Benjamin fled East on I-10, and after experiencing vehicle problems, abandoned the vehicle and fled into the marsh near the Irish Bayou exit.
Benjamin was later apprehended in the marsh. He was treated on scene for asthma and taken into custody.
Charges are pending. He is currently being questioned.
