NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - From Central City to Lee Circle, it was a violent morning in New Orleans. Police detectives investigated three shootings, two following armed robberies.
One shooting shut down one of the city's busiest intersections for much of the morning rush.
"It's a shame. You would think in this day and time - they're still doing all this? The crime is crazy," said Annette Cantrelle of New Orleans.
Police evidence cones marked off three shell casings from a construction walkway, where robbers approached a man, demanded money, shot him and fled.
"The person was arguing over money. That's it, and I heard three shots two seconds apart," said one witness.
The Lee Circle shooting happened after two separate shootings on Josephine Street. Around 2:30 am in the 2400 block, a gunman opened fire on a man. The bullet struck him, then ricocheted off several vehicle.
Anthony Joseph said he heard about a dozen shots.
"I just came to my door and looked. As long as they weren't shooting up in there, because I would have started shooting out there," he said.
That shooting came one hour after another shooting six blocks away in the 1800 block of Josephine, where a gunman shot a woman who refused to hand over her purse.
"If they come here and try and do something to me, I'm always ready. I stays ready," said Joseph.
He says it's the third shooting on his block in the past three years.
