Police: Man crashed stolen truck while drunk

LAFOURCHE PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre and the Louisiana State Police arrested 20-year-old Rhett Thibodeaux of Larose, after they say he stole a truck and crashed it while driving drunk on Wednesday.

Around 11:30 p.m., troopers responded to a crash on LA 308 in Cut Off. Officers found that the vehicle crashed through a small building. The driver then ran toward East 36th Street.

Deputies searched the area and observed a man lying under a truck in the driveway of a residence in the 100 block of East 36th Street.

Investigators say they shined a spotlight on Thibodeaux, who then ran again. Deputies caught up to him and took him into custody. As troopers investigated the crash, they found out the truck Thibodeaux was driving had been stolen from a Cut Off resident.

Troopers say Thibodeaux was impaired and arrested him for DWI and other charges. Thibodeaux submitted to a breathalyzer test which showed him to have a blood alcohol level of .130g%.

Thibodeaux was taken to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux, and was booked on charges including theft of a motor vehicle, resisting an officer, DWI, hit and run, and careless operation. He was also booked with an outstanding warrant for contempt of court. He is being held without bond.
