TERRYTOWN, LA (WVUE) - Jefferson Parish deputies have confirmed the Sunday drowning of a 3-year-old girl at an apartment complex in Terrytown.
The drowning occurred in the hot tub area of the pool at the Towne Bridge Apartments in the 1600 block of Carol Sue Avenue. Haven's parents were in the area when she drowned, but a teenager was supposed to be keeping an eye on the girl, according to Jefferson Parish Coroner Dr. Gerry Cvitanovich.
Family members who were at the pool with her said Haven was standing on the steps of the hot tub. Seconds later, they saw her floating face down, according to the JPSO. Investigators believe the girl slipped off the steps into the deeper area of the hot tub. Haven could not swim and did not have on a life jacket or floaters.
The incident is under investigation.
Cvitanovich said this marks the third child drowning in the metro area in a matter of weeks. A 5-year-old Metairie girl drowned May 25, in the pool of a vacant house next to her family's home. The week before, a 2-year-old boy drowned after falling into a pool in the lakefront area.
