St. Bernard hosts youth fishing rodeo

CHALMETTE, LA (WVUE) -

Young anglers are invited to participate in a fishing rodeo. The free event is hosted by the St. Bernard Parish Government's Recreation/Leisure program. 

The youth fishing rodeo will be held on Saturday, June 25 from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Sidney Torres Park in Chalmette.

Below are the rules for the youth event:
 
•       Limit: five catfish per person
•       All youth 15 and under must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times. 
•       One "Angler" award per participant; winners must be present to receive prizes. 
•       Fishing equipment is not provided at this event; bring your own gear, bait and cooler. 
•       All fish must be caught from Torres Park on Rodeo day
•       HONOR SYSTEM – all fish entered must be caught by that participant. 
•       Each fish may only be entered in ONE category or division. 
•       Each registered "Angler" will be entered into a raffle drawing of prizes after awards and must be present to claim prize.

There will be two divisions and categories open during the rodeo.  
 
1) Little Angler (ages 8 and under) 
• Catfish – 1st, 2nd and 3rd place heaviest catfish 
• Other Category (any other fish species): 1st, 2nd, 3rd place heaviest fish 
 
2) Junior Angler (ages 9-15) 
• Catfish – 1st, 2nd and 3rd place heaviest catfish 
• Other Category (any other fish species): 1st, 2nd, 3rd place heaviest fish 

Other activities will include a space walk and a fire safety demonstration.
