THIBODAUX, LA (WVUE) - Police in Thibodaux arrested a man for cashing a fraudulent check on someone else's account.
Investigators said Brandon Sims, 23, went to a bank in the 200 block of North Canal Boulevard in Thibodaux and cashed a check for $760. Two days later, the bank notified the victim of suspicious activity on his account.
During the investigation, officers learned the victim never received checks he ordered from the bank.
Police said Sims returned to the same bank on Monday and tried to cash a second check, this time for $1,854.
Police arrived on the scene and arrested Sims. When collecting evidence, they noticed Sims misspelled the word "fifty" as "fiffty."
Sims faces charges of attempted bank fraud, theft, and forgery, partly because of consistent spelling errors on his checks.
He is being held at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on a $17,500 bond.
