NOPD investigating a Seventh Ward double shooting

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

Three people hiding in a nearby alley opened fire on two others as they came out of a Seventh Ward home, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

The shooting occurred around 11:40 p.m. in the 2800 block of Pauger Street.

When police arrived, they learned that three suspects had been hiding in a nearby alley. They opened fire on two victims – a man, 25, and a woman 32 – as they came out of a home in the area.

The male victim, who returned fire on the assailants, suffered a graze wound to the ear and was treated at the scene.

The female victim sustained a gunshot wound to the lower leg and was taken to a nearby hospital in a private vehicle.

Residents told our partners at NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune that gunfire is a frequent part of life on Pauger Street.

The reported hearing 10 to 20 shots.

Three or four people were seen running from the area and fleeing in a car.

A witness told the website a woman who was shot was bleeding from her leg.

She left the scene and arrived at a nearby hospital a private vehicle.
