MONROE, La. (AP) - Police in Louisiana say a woman came home to discover a naked stranger in her tub, eating her Cheetos while taking a bath. A Monroe police affidavit says 29-year-old Evelyn Washington was arrested on burglary and property damage charges. A police affidavit says that when the homeowner confronted Washington, she said some man had told her to break into the house. Police found the tub full of water, with a plate of food and half-eaten Cheetos on the toilet.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The arrival of massive ships with towering masts and billowing sails kicks off a week of events heralding the 300th anniversary of New Orleans. Tall ships resembling 19th century vessels were set to arrive around midday Thursday at the city's downtown riverfront.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Louisiana House Republican leaders are trying to rally enough votes to pass a budget for next year that contains steep cuts to health services. They face no help from Democrats and a veto threat from Gov. John Bel Edwards. GOP leaders need 53 votes to get the $27 billion operating budget proposal over to the Senate.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Louisiana has a new higher education commissioner to oversee policy governing the state's public colleges and more than 200,000 students. The Board of Regents on Wednesday chose Kim Hunter Reed, executive director of the Colorado Department of Higher Education, for the position. Reed is returning to her home. The Lake Charles native previously worked as Regents chief of staff, deputy chief of staff for Gov. Kathleen Blanco and executive vice president for the University of Louisiana System.
