THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - A Thibodaux police officer is free on a personal recognizance bond after his arrest in connection with a narcotics investigation. Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre and Thibodaux Police Chief Bryan Zeringue says 36-year-old Richard Queen II, of Thibodaux, was arrested Friday on two counts of attempted possession of a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance. Zeringue says Queen was also dismissed from duty Friday and his police equipment was confiscated
GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - A 34-year-old man from New Orleans has pleaded guilty and admitted impersonating a federal agent. U.S. Attorney D. Michael Hurst Jr. said in a news release Friday that Troy Graham entered the plea to three counts of extortion, brandishing a firearm during a robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Sentencing is June 28. Graham faces a potential sentence of 37 years to life on the three charges.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Louisiana State University's medical school in New Orleans says fewer of its students want to stay in Louisiana to finish their training because of the continued threat of state budget cuts. LSU Health New Orleans announced Friday that 89 of its 193 graduating medical students, or 46 percent, decided to remain in Louisiana for their residency program. That's down from 49 percent last year and 64 percent six years ago.
LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - A man arrested last month on drug charges is now charged in connection with a 2008 homicide in Louisiana. The Advertiser reports Lafayette police announced Friday that 56-year-old Millard Hebert is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 47-year-old Bonnie Ruphard, whose body was found in a wooded area in December 2008.
