ORLANDO, FL (WVUE) - The family of a Metairie man who was at the Pulse nightclub says their loved one is still alive.
Lauri Melendez, the sister of Leonel Melendez, said her brother was shot in the head during the mass violence. He is in a coma, according to his sister.
She posted the news on Facebook Monday morning.
"God will provide!!! My brother is alive and the power of prayer will wake him up from his coma! Keep it coming."
The family had not heard from the 39-year-old and did not know his whereabouts Sunday night. They learned through friends that Leonel was at Pulse nightclub at the time of the shooting.
Sunday afternoon, David, along with his sister, mom and his brother's best friend, hopped on a flight from New Orleans to Orlando, to try to locate Leonel.
Forty-nine people were killed and 53 were injured at the nightclub in Orlando on Sunday. The shooter, Omar Mateen, died in a shootout with police.
