Saints welcome Robert Meachem back

METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) -

We will soon find out if 'experience' trumps rust. Robert Meachem's hoping it does as he gets three days to prove he still has it.

He had 72 hours to knock off the rust that came with sitting out the entire 2015 season. Meach last suited up for the Saints in 20-14 but was released after his contract expired.

He got the call back to mini-camp after impressing Sean Payton in a private workout...now, the vet is hoping to 'stay' in black and gold just a little while longer.

"They just gave me number twelve and i told them it felt weird because, you know, when i was a rookie, he (Marques Colston) was one year ahead of me so i sent him a text message saying 'they gave me your number but i'll make you proud'", said Meachem, who wore number seventeen during his six seasons in New Orleans.

Experience with this offense will be a great asset for Meachem. Catching balls from Drew Brees, Meachem hauled in 178 balls for over 29-hundred yards and 27-touchdowns. The Saints drafted Meachem 27th overall in 2007
