BATON ROUGE, LA (WVUE) - After a series of reports linking LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri with the University of Texas' opening, the 58-year-old announced that he is staying in Baton Rouge.
Early Thursday, D1Baseball reported that Mainieri had interviewed with Longhorns officials, but that no offers had been made to any candidates for the opening. That afternoon, the university released a statement affirming Mainieri's commitment to LSU.
In the release, Mainieri said "LSU is home to the Mainieri family, and it's my intention to keep it that way for a long time. Our first 10 years here have been a remarkable experience, and I'm very grateful to all Tiger fans for their tremendous support. Preparation for the 2017 season starts right now, and we're looking forward to seeing everyone in Alex Box Stadium in February."
In his ten years with the Tigers, Mainieri has reached the College World Series four times, including a 2009 National Championship.
