Flood advisories expire as expected

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The National Weather Service put part of the Fox 8 viewing area under a flood advisory this morning. Those advisories have expired.

Thunderstorms coming into Southeast Louisiana are bringing heavy rain that could cause localized flooding. As a result, the NWS put several parishes under an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory until  9:45 a.m.

The following parishes were included in the advisory:

  • Orleans Parish
  • St. Bernard Parish
  • Plaquemines Parish
  • Jefferson Parish

Doppler radar detected heavy rain due to thunderstorms in those areas that could cause urban and small stream flooding. Overflowing poor drainage areas will results in minor flooding according to the NWS. Radar estimates of near an inch have fallen in a very short time in those areas and an additional one-to-two inches of rain will be possible.
