NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Orleans Parish Sheriff Marlin Gusman reached an agreement with the United States Department of Justice over federal a takeover of Orleans Parish Prison, according to sources.
The deal is likely to be announced Tuesday morning at federal court where an evidentiary hearing is scheduled.
While details are not being made public, sources said the plan could allow Gusman to retain some control over the jail.
The two sides have been embroiled in a federal court hearing for weeks, over conditions at OPP.
This deal would halt the remainder of the hearing. U.S. District Court Judge Lance Africk will have final approval over the possible agreement.
