Interim Plaquemines Parish President sworn in

PLAQUEMINES PARISH, LA (WVUE) - The Plaquemines Parish Council voted Tuesday to install Ed Theriot as Interim President after the sudden death of Parish President Amos Cormier, Jr. Cormier died Thursday one day after undergoing a heart procedure.

Theriot served as Cormier's Director of Administration.

The council voted 6-0-3 in favor of Theriot's promotion. The parish says there were no votes against Theriot, but three council members abstained.

Theriot was sworn in today.

"I thank the almighty God for the opportunity. I thank the council members for putting their trust in me. President Cormier had visions for our parish. He wanted to put our parish back to the way it was. I'm going to continue these visions," Theriot said. "I'm going to seek help from the council, and together as a government. We hope to move our parish forward."

The council also introduced a resolution to hold a special election in November to elect someone to serve the remainder of Cormier's term. Theriot will serve both as Interim President and Director of Administration until a permanent replacement is elected in the fall.
