NOPD arrests one man for two violent crimes

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - New Orleans police responding to a domestic battery call identified that suspect as the same suspect in a shooting on Fulton Street last month.

The NOPD's Violent Offender Warrant Squad arrested 32-year-old Brandon Laurant on Friday. Police booked him with attempted second-degree murder, simple domestic battery, criminal damage to property and extortion.

On June 23, NOPD officers responded to a domestic battery call at Crowder and Lake Forest Blvd. When officers arrived, they ran a name check on the suspected perpetrator and discovered he was also wanted for an attempted murder charge from May 27.

Witnesses said in that incident, which occurred in the 600 block of Fulton Street, Laurant and the victim got into an argument, when Laurant pulled out a handgun and shot the victim multiple times. He then fled the scene.

Through further investigation, detectives gathered evidence and located surveillance video from the immediate area and identified Laurant as the perpetrator.
