NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The settlement between Tom Benson and his estranged heirs over who will control his estate after he dies has been kept private -- until now.
Rita Benson Leblanc, one a very visible part of the Saints organization, broke her silence on the 17 month legal process against her grandfather.
According to a report by sports business daily, Rita said that no matter what happens in the litigation, she'll still be a partial owner.
The full terms of the settlement have not been disclosed, but Rita did go on to describe life after being fired by Tom Benson as "extremely traumatic" and "horrific in many ways."
Jeff Duncan, Saints Columnist for Nola.com/The Times-Picayune, said he's not surprised, Rita, Ryan Leblanc and Renee Benson all received some sort of compensation.
"Once the settlement was reached, you knew that the three R's had to get something out of this settlement," said Jeff Duncan, Saints Columnist for Nola.com/The Times-Picayune. "They seemed to have a lot of momentum and a lot of leverage on their side entering this case. For them to reach a settlement right on the eve of the trial, I think led you to believe that they got something out of it."
