Tulane to offer free first aid, safety training to area teens

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

Tulane University will offer area teens a chance to gain valuable skills that may one day save a life.

The TEEN CERT program offer free training to residents Orleans, Jefferson, Plaquemines and St. Bernard Parishes.

Teenagers will have an opportunity to learn about basic disaster preparedness response skills.

Those skills will include:

  • First aid
  • Fire safety
  • Search and rescue
  • Team building skills
  • Disaster medical operations

Topics will also include the dangers of drinking and driving, texting and driving, terrorism awareness, and bullying.

Hands on training will also be given in CPR and the proper use of a fire extinguisher.

To put the lessons into practical use camp participants will participate in field exercises with simulated scenarios.
Tulane University will host the camp, July 11 -15.

The registration deadline is July 1.
