IBERVILLE PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Investigators say a trailer load full of cattle found along I-12 near Hammond was stolen from an Iberville Parish cattleman. Authorities say the trailer was also stolen, but from a different Iberville Parish farmer.
The 18 Brangus heifers were expected to be returned to their owner on June 29. They were housed at Amite stockyard as the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry Brand Commission and police looked for leads in the case.
"Because these cattle were not branded, it took us longer to identify who owned these heifers. We encourage all livestock owners to properly identify their animals with official ear tags or brands. Farm equipment such as trailers must also be properly inventoried so identification can be made in theft cases," said LDAF Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M.
Anyone with information about the stolen cattle and trailer is asked to call the Iberville Sheriff's Office. A $1,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
