NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu and the New Orleans City Council are scheduled to host a series of meetings to discuss priorities for the 2017 budget.

A host of other city leaders and department heads will attend these meetings.

The process, called “budgeting for outcomes” is designed to produce a more “resident-driven” budget and ensure better accountability, according to a statement from Landrieu 's office.

While traditional budgeting systems hinge on incremental changes to the previous year’s level of effort, budgeting for outcomes ensures that all city budgets are funded based on how well they achieve residents’ priorities, the statement said.

Before each district meeting, city officials will also host a resource center from 5:30 – 6:00 p.m. where residents may visit one-on-one with representatives from several city departments and agencies to address specific complaints and concerns.

All community meetings will begin promptly at 6 p.m. Spanish translation services will be available at all meetings. Vietnamese translation services will be available at the District E meeting.

Residents who cannot attend community meetings are invited to share their comments and input by sending e-mail to mayor@nola.gov.

It's a bad news, good news story for the Nicholls St. Colonels. They lost their River Bell Classic battle Thursday night against Southeastern. But, they won the war and got in to the FCS Playoffs anyway.
