NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for north Jefferson Parish until 9:30 a.m.

Doppler radar indicated heavy rain from thunderstorms across portions of the east bank of Jefferson Parish from the lakefront to just south of Interstate 10.

Up to two inches of rain has already fallen.

The areas that may experience flooding include Metairie, Jefferson, Harahan, Elmwood, River Ridge, Bridge City, Waggaman, Ama and Armstrong International Airport.

Additional rainfall of one to two inches is expected over the area.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams. Highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots may flood as well.
