COVINGTON, LA (WVUE) - Covington Police said they are looking for a man who tried to get a young girl into his truck on Thursday (June 30).
Investigators said a 9-year-old girl was riding her bike at about 3 p.m. in the area of W. 30th Avenue and Polk Street when she was approached by a white male in what is believed to be a gray Dodge truck. The girl told investigators that the man got out of the truck and accused her of being on a stolen bicycle. As he approached, he produced some type of ID card, saying that if the bike was stolen, the girl could be sent to juvenile hall. Police said he then asked the victim if she had any weapons or drugs on her, and proceeded to check her pockets.
The man then placed the girl's bike in the back of his truck and tried to escort her to his truck. At that point, the girl took off running. When she got to her home she reported the incident to her mother.
Investigators found the bike alongside of the road near the location of the encounter.
The victim described the man as being bald and clean-shaven, about 45 years old and tall with a medium build. He may have a bruise in the area of his right eye. He was wearing a brown polo-type shirt and dirty blue jeans. On his left arm was a silver watch.
