ELMWOOD, LA (WVUE) - Deputies with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office arrest two Texas women, after a two-year-old child was found left alone inside a hot car.
The incident occurred Friday in the parking lot of the Walmart in the 5100 block of Jefferson Highway.
Police say that store employees found the child in the car and broke out the passenger window to free him. He was crying, sweating profusely and vomited on himself, according to police. The child was also beginning to show signs of heat stroke.
He was brought inside the cool store where EMT's examined the child and determined, he was ok.
Deputies later found the boy's mother, identified as 25-year-old Shaun Buchanan of Newark, TX and her aunt, identified as 37-year-old Cynthia Simmons of Denton, TX, inside the store.
According to police, the mother admitted to leaving the child in the car while the two women shopped.
Both women were arrested and charged with child desertion and cruelty to a juvenile.
The boy's father arrived on scene and took custody of the child.
