Fiery crash kills at least two in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Two people died after the car they were riding in stuck a traffic pole early Monday morning in New Orleans.

The accident occurred at around 1:45 a.m. at the intersection of Press Drive and Leon C. Simon Boulevard.

New Orleans police say a white Chevrolet Impala was traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on Leon C. Simon when the driver lost control and struck a traffic light pole.

The vehicle burst into flames and both the driver and front passenger were badly burned and died inside the car.

The female passenger in the rear of the Impala was helped out by bystanders and managed to escape the wreckage.

She was transported to a local hospital in serious condition.

Blood and alcohol tests are pending and the investigation is ongoing.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will conduct an official autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
