NOPD investigating two weekend burglaries

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans police are investigating two reported burglaries, according to initial reports.

The first incident occurred at approximately 6:16 a.m. in the 5700 block of Vermillion Boulevard.

The victim, a 33-year-old woman, returned to her home and found a kitchen window open and her ex-boyfriend sitting on the couch.

The ex-boyfriend, identified as 38-year-old Tronell Matthews, beat and choked the victim and refused to let her leave the home.

The second incident occurred at approximately 1:16 a.m. in the 1000 block of Dumaine Street.

The victim, a 46-year-old man, was awakened by a suspect inside his home trying to take his bike.

The victim approached the suspect and perpetrator grabbed the victim's IPad and ran. The victim went after the perpetrator who grabbed the victim's neck and choked him.

The suspect is described as a white male with brown hair. He was wearing a white shirt and blue jeans.
