NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The popular 1.8-mile exercise path at Audubon Park gets a makeover, starting Tuesday.
Resurfacing the path will be done in four phases, with a construction schedule that completes in September 2016. Crews will be working on the path in phases, so people will be able to use the path during the project.
The repair job is underwritten by the Goldring and Woldenberg foundations, and is the first project on the path in 15 years.
Future improvements will include playground upgrade, shelter improvements, and installation of new bike racks and trash cans. The work is funded by the Audubon Park Conservancy, which raises money for the day-to-day care of the park and annual maintenance.
In the past, the Conservancy made over the park's lagoon, installed solar-powered emergency phones, increased trash and litter collection, and replaced park benches.
