NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A young hero is being praised for quick thinking and tiny hands.
Camile Beard and her mother Amy were flagged down by a driver near the intersection of St. Charles and Louisiana Avenues.
There they found 12 ducklings stuck in a storm drain along with their distraught mother.
Camile stuck her hand through the grates, allowing the ducklings, one-by-one, to hop up on her hand and pulled to safety.
The birds appear to black-bellied Whistling ducks which are common in Louisiana and Texas and other southern states.
The ducks were taken to Audubon Zoo, where they will be examined and then released into the wild.
