(WVUE) - The area has now seen six consecutive days without dipping below the 80-degree mark.
This prolonged heat wave is expected to continue with another heat advisory issued for the south shore from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Temperatures could reach the upper 90s this afternoon and heat index values will top 105 degrees at times. A few stray storms will be possible this afternoon.
Subtle changes will arrive for the weekend and early next week. The intense ridge of high pressure over southeast Louisiana will weaken and allow for increasing coverage of showers and storms.
The result may be slightly lower temperatures (low 90s for highs) Sunday and early next week.
By the middle of next week, high pressure strengthens again with temperatures rising and storm chances likely decreasing.
