METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) -

The Metairie man wounded in the mass shooting in an Orlando nightclub could be released from the hospital soon, family members are saying.
Family members say Leo Melendez has his full memory back.

They also say Melendez saw his daughter this week for the first time since the June 12 mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub.

According to his sister, he's still having some problems with his hearing and vision, but he is supposed to return to Louisiana in September to continue his recovery.

The gunman, Omar Mateen, used a semi-automatic weapon in the attack which killed 49 people, and injured 53 others.

The killer later died in a shootout with police.
