NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Louisiana doctors confirm another case of Zika virus in the state.
The Louisiana Department of Health says the patient sought medical care in the state after traveling to a region with ongoing Zika transmission. This new case marks the eighth time someone has been diagnosed in the state after traveling. There have been no confirmed cases of local transmission within Louisiana.
The zika virus is transmitted through mosquito bites. Doctors recommend you use bug repellent containing DEET to avoid the insects
Doctors have linked cases of zika in pregnant women to the eventual birth of babies with a rare defect called microcephaly.
