Well-known N.O. plastic surgeon faces new counts of voyeurism, rape

Uptown doctor indicted on charges of rape, video voyeurism

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A grand jury indicted a well-known plastic surgeon on five counts of video voyeurism and one count of forcible rape.

Thursday's indictment is the second time Dr. Ali Sadeghi has been indicted. He originally faced one count of rape and one count of video voyeurism. Those charges were dropped and Sadeghi was indicted again this afternoon.

Because of the new indictment, the date of the original alleged offense has changed, causing the case to be moved out of Judge Laurie White's section and into Judge Karen Herman's section.

The defendant's attorney called the district attorney's move blatant judge shopping. He said the charges are essentially the same against his client.

Prosecutors argued there are now four additional victims. They say the victims were patients being videoed without their knowledge in the operating room.

Prosecutors alleged the video included lewd conduct. Prosecutors asked that Sadeghi's bond be set at $1.5 million. They argued that the doctor is in Iranian citizen and has the means to escape to that country.

His attorney though denied all allegations against his client.

White set bond at $300,000. Sadeghi is not in jail right now. The judge said he'll be allowed to turn himself in at her court room Friday during an already scheduled hearing.
