New Orleans police make an arrest in a fatal St. Roch shooting, just hours after the incident occurred. The shooting took place Saturday morning, just before 3 a.m. in the 2700 block of Edge Street. The perpetrator has been identified as 25-year-old Deiontay Helmstetter.

According to police, the victim, identified as a black man in his mid-20's, was found slumped over inside of an SUV, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police say that investigators spoke with a female who witnessed the shooting. She told investigators that her boyfriend dropped her off at her home. Shortly after getting out of the car, her former boyfriend drove up to the victim's vehicle and opened fire, shooting the victim through the driver's side window. The victim's SUV traveled halfway down the block before coming to a stop in a neighboring driveway.

Police say that Helmstetter has been charged with second degree murder.
