NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

As a result of Sunday's attack in Baton Rouge that killed three police officers, Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand has ordered two-man patrols for his deputies. The patrols will begin July 17, at 6 p.m. and remain in place until further notice.

Members of the JPSO Specialized Investigations and Criminal Investigations will also join those patrols.

The New Orleans Police Department also instituted a response strategy that will see two units respond to calls to provide backup and support. But the NOPD will not be putting two officers in patrol vehicles at this time.

“We are working in teams now, that will affect the response to other types of crimes,” NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison said. “Right now we are working in teams of two, no less than two, so that we can ensure safety.”
