KENTWOOD, LA (WVUE) - State Police have taken over the investigation of an officer-involved shooting in Kentwood.
The shooting happened Tuesday about a half-mile off of Interstate 55 near the parking lot of the Sunflower grocery store, and investigators said it stemmed from a separate criminal probe.
State Police said a Kentwood officer was trying to stop a vehicle. According to statements that officer provided to investigators, he fired at the vehicle's tires to disable it because the driver was trying to flee.
At some point, 19-year old Chrishundria Mobley was shot in her left side near her ribs. Family members said she was in the front seat and her boyfriend was driving. After the shooting, her boyfriend left the scene and drove Mobley to a hospital in Mississippi.
State Police said the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
Family members said Mobley's 1-year-old son was in the back seat with an adult male at the time of the shooting. Police are still trying to identify the male.
The officer accused of shooting Mobley has been placed on administrative leave.
