NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Everyone knew it would only be a matter of time before former LSU shortstop Alex Bregman made his way to the MLB. The Houston Astros made the call Sunday afternoon and say he'll join the club on Monday.
The Albuquerque, N.M. native was a man on fire in the minor leagues. In 2016 with the Corpus Christi Hooks and Fresno Grizzlies, he bat .306 with 61 RBI and 20 home runs.
It's still unclear what position he'll play in Houston. Carlos Correa still stands tall at Bregman's natural position at shortstop. However, he did spend time in the minor leagues playing third base and left field.
The Astros selected Bregman second overall in the 2015 MLB draft.
